CState Wed. August 29th

Tell me why you chose to come to Columbia State.

  1. I chose to attend Columbia State for many reasons, but the main one would be because its close to home. I can live and eat for free if I go to school here. Instead of spending a fortune on gas, food, and housing if I were to go somewhere else.
Another reason, is tuition here is alot cheaper than other schools around the state. Here you pay a few thousand a semester at other schools it is tens of thousands. No debt for me here, if I go somewhere else I would be in a deep dark whole of debt. Thats not exactly where I would like to be.
Money is such a big factor in everyday life. I think for now this is my best bet. Good education for a cheap price, and I can stay home free!

  2. I chose CState because it's an inexpensive way for me to complete a good amount of my undergraduate courses, plus I don't live very far from the main campus.

  3. I chose to attend Columbia State for a few reasons, as well as some unexpected occurrences. I suppose the biggest reason, as with most people, would be because the tuition is significantly cheaper than universities. To spend 15% of what tuition would cost at a university, for the credits that are fully transferable to a university later on, is very attractive.
Before I considered attending Columbia State, I was actually accepted into Middle Tennessee State University's Aerospace program. The problem that prevented me from attending, in addition to the expensive tuition coupled with the room and board, were the flight labs required for all aerospace majors. These flight labs were numerous and expensive to varying degrees, and ultimately ended my possibility of attending MTSU. In my search for a cheaper alternative, I came across Columbia State.
My last reason, but definitely not least influencing, is the ability to remain close to my family and friends. If I were to stay on a university, I would see them once a week at best. This way I can come home to see them every day, without using all the gas and time it would take to drive every weekend to and from the potentially far away campus. Money can be a very serious motivator in modern day life, but I try not to forget about other things that really matter to me and to the people who care for me, the family and friends that I am able to stay close to by attending Columbia State.
All in all, I would have to say that while finances played a big role, it was nice to be able to stay close to those who play a big part in my life, to know that I have them to rely on for many resources should I ever need to.

  4. Columbia State provides many opportunities for people wanting a future in the medical field with its great medical programs. I have always wanted to be a Radiology Technichian, and thanks to the great Radiology program that is provided here I can reach that goal quickly and cheaper than if I chose somewhere else to attend.
I watched my older brother receive his EMT license through Columbia State, and he immediatly found a job. Through that I decided choosing here to attend would be a smart choice to make if I wanted to reach my goals as quick as possible.

  5. Going to college is a decision we all have to acknowledge at some point in our lives. We research all the options that are available to us. Then we also use our best educated judgment in concluding which college will be the best for our own personal needs. Yes it’s difficult, but here are a few reasons why I thought Columbia State would be the best for me.
First off is efficiency. As many of us know, Columbia State is definitely less costly. With just a few scholarships as being freshmen or any other grade level for that matter. One can be relieved to find most of their tuition paid for. Of course, hopefully that is…
Second is that I can stay closer to home. This was a major factor that helped me decide on this college campus. Having the luxury to stay home and save a little more money is nice, but overall. I come to enjoy the simple pleasures of family.
Then finally, it’s just plain familiar. So many universities are incredible, but depending on the campus and where it’s located. The so called “City Life” would be too much of a culture shock for me. These are just a few reasons why I came to choose Columbia State, and so far. It seems to be a good decision!

  6. My reason for attending Columbia State is a touch different than most in this class. I'm a senior at Columbia Central High School, attending Columbia State in the dual enrollment program. Our twelth grade curriculum focuses on British Literature. While I can appreciate any novel put in front of me, literature just isn't my favorite. I've always enjoyed writing, and I can't say I'm terribly bad at it. I'm pretty sure I was the only Junior excited about the writing assesment.
So I decided to take Composition at Columbia State so that I could focus more on my writing and less on my reading. I must say, I'm kind of glad we're doing persuasive writing, because that's all we focused on in eleventh grade English, so I'm more than prepared for this class.
In addition to this class, I will be taking a math course in the Spring. I'm hoping that these courses provide me with the tools I need before starting my own journey in college, as well as a unique Senior experience.

  7. I chose to come to Columbia State because I am undecided on what I want to major in. Columbia State is significantly smaller in tuition and other costs than larger universities. So for my family this school was a better choice financially. I also like the student to teacher ratio. Coming from a small community and graduating from a class that was smaller than a hundred I really feel that I can be successful in a smaller setting like Columbia State offers.
Also, several of my classmates are attending here which is comforting to know I will see a familiar face and won’t be overwhelmed in a new situation without people that I know. My sister is a former student of Columbia State and she encouraged me to come here because the professors were very helpful. I believe that this was the best decision for me.

  8. I chose Columbia State because I did not want to leave my hometown. I want to stay close to my family and friends. My friends and family are helping me through this transition in life.

Also, Columbia State makes me feel welcome. I love that teachers care about students succeeding, and that is better than any university.

Finally, Columbia State is cheaper, and I can get my degree here at the fraction of the cost of any university.

  9. I chose Cstate because it is the closest and cheapest college that I can dual enroll at.

  10. I chose Columbia State for multiple reasons. The first reason would be a combination of location and money. I’m a junior in high school, so I’m obviously still living at home. Luckily, my home is rather close to Columbia’s campus. The dual enrollment cost is also very cheap at Columbia State. Both of these factors attracted my parents to this school, and because I still live with them, the final decision was theirs.

Another reason I chose to attend Columbia State was because of the campus. The campus isn’t too large, so I’m less likely to get lost running around. The size of the campus also gives it more a family feel. At a large university, it is possible to feel disconnected from school and the people around you. Columbia is definitely not that way.

Finally, I chose to come to Columbia State because I could duel enroll with my friends. At my age, coming to a school like this can be intimidating. Having my friends here really helps me feel more comfortable. Saving money carpooling is pretty nice too. Although the final decision for my attendance was my parents, I’m very excited to be here and am looking forward to a great year.

  11. I chose Columbia State for multiple reasons. The reason would be the combination of money and location. As a transfer student from Tennessee Tech Unvi.It is easier on me to drive twenty minutes instead of two hours to go to school and plus TTU was to expensive.

Another reason would be I have alot of freinds that go here. While i was at TTU i had to make new freinds. It wasnt hard but nothing beats the freinds you grew up with. Most of my freinds are in other classes but i got two in here.
the last reason I chose Columbia State is because it is a small campus. TTU's campus was big but not huge. It took me two weeks to find all my classes without using the campus map.
These are my reason for choosing Columbia State I'm looking forward to a great year.

  12. I chose Columbia State because of the economical price and the location. It is close to home and offers the dual enrollment program that I needed. It offers a good education and all of my required classes. This is a great way for me to be able to complete all of my prereqs inexpensively before attending college and get high school credit at the same time. Columbia State was a good fit for what I needed. I am looking forward to the school year.

  13. The reason I chose to attend Columbia State is more of an accumulation of many reasons. Originally i was accepted to UT Martin and I was going there because my friend Heath was and we were going to room together. I didn't really like the thought of living with a stranger.
I never really knew what i wanted to be in life ,or where I wanted to go to college. My friend Heath told me i should go to Martin and we could room together so I just applied and was planning on that. I was always really good in History so I put my major as that. Every time I would tell people my major they would ask me if I was going to be a teacher. That was the last thing I wanted to do and there wasn't really any big money jobs in the History field that interested me whether it was teaching or not.
Close to the end of the school year my friend got a baseball scholarship offer from Dyersburg State and decided to go there instead. I realized the only reason I was going to UT Martin was because it was what i was told to do instead of what i wanted to do. Finally i decided I wanted to be a nurse so I looked into Columbia State and liked what I saw. I could stay closer to home and get the same if not better education for a cheaper deal. That is why I chose C-State.

  14. I had many colleges to choose from, so I spent around three years looking at all the different choices I could make. After spending so much time looking at all these great colleges around here in Tennessee and great colleges in some other states as well, I finally decided to stick around home to attend Columbia State.

My first reason for choosing Columbia State was money reasons. I have many siblings so my family has a lot of kids to put in college, which means a lot of school fees to pay for. It only made sense for me to attend a college that was inexpensive. My parents informed me that if after two years at Columbia State if I decided to transfer then they would be more than happy to help me, and to keep that option open.

My second reason for choosing Columbia State was my home with my family. I love that I live so close to the college while staying with my family. I know they will always be around to support me. Being here at Columbia State is a fantastic way for me to get my college education and stay home with my family there to help me.

My home and money are my main two reasons for Columbia State being the college I selected, but I believe I will love every thing about being here at this school.

  15. I chose CState for many reasons. The first reason is because I'm a senior at Columbia Central High School and am apart of the dual enrollment program. I am apart of this because, while I am eligible for "higher level" english, I don't have room for it in my schedule. So, I chose to take Comp I.

The second reason for my choosing Columbia State is because I wanted to start getting prerequisite classes for college out of the way. I am choosing a career in the medical field, and although doing so would mainly require science and math classes, basic english classes are required as well. So, I'm being proactive and taking these classes early.

I did have a third reason, but in being distracted in writing this response, I have forgotten that reason. So, I'll conclude here. I don't have room in my schedule for "higher level" english, and I wish to get my prerequisite classes out of the way. I am looking forward to this class non-the-less.

  16. I chose Columbia State for really only one reason. That was to help my dad out and my brother who is 10. It was also to help myself out in a small way.

My dad is single with two kids. He is a fireman which means he has a very tough work schedule. He is at the fire hall for 24 hours and off for 48. So that time that he is there I take care of my brother so my dad doesn't have to worry about paying someone. I knew that staying here in town would give him more time to figure something out that would be convenient for both him and my brother.

My reason for going to Columbia State and staying in town is that I have a strong belief that good things come to those who wait. I know that taking care of my brother is not my job but I enjoy doing it and I know that only good can come out of it.

  17. I chose Columbia State for a couple of reasons. The main reason is because of the Veterinarian Technician program. This is my third year in college, and after two years, I have finally decided on the perfect career for me.

Another reason that I chose Columbia State is because of how far it is from my home. It is close enough for me to be able to live at home and drive twice a week.

The last reason I chose Columbia State is because of the price of tuition. I did not want to be left with a significant amount of student loans after college. Because of community colleges, I will be able to get a degree in something that I love with no loans to pay off in the end.

  18. I chose to come to columbia state mainly to save money. I decided that i could stay at home, work, make money, and go to school all at the same time. I did not see the point in going off and losing money.
Another reason I chose columbia state is because I could stay at home. I did not have to worry about a move in date or a payment for a dorm. This took stress off my parents and I both.

  19. There are a few obvious reasons for choosing Columbia State based on the fact that it is very close to me, relative to other colleges. The tuition was also very cheap compared to other schools.

More importantly, I needed to ease my way into the college experience in order to get a feel for the difference between college and high school that would allow me keep a high level grade throughout college.

A lot of people throw themselves on a big campus not knowing what to expect and end up flunking out the first semester, and I definitely didn't want that to be me, which in my opinion, makes Columbia State a good school for myself.

  20. Why Columbia State? My reason will be a a lot like everyone else's I imagine. Close to home and to save money. I am looking at majoring in Forensic Psychology and there is not yet a school close that has that field of study, meaning right now it requires a double major, both in Psychology and Criminal Justice. However, the school in which I hope to actually get my degree hopes to have the Forensic Psychology program up and running inside a couple years. So I am here at Columbia State to take the required course to transfer while I wait for that.
Columbia State is also a smaller school which makes getting the class time and studying in that most students need. They offer many of the same views and classes as more expensive schools, but you get to know your peers and instructors better, which makes for an over all better experience.

  21. I chose to come to Columbia State because I was told I had a big scholarship from Columbia State. I was told wrong but decided to stay with the program anyway.
I also came to Collumbia State because it was cheeper than the school I really wanted to go to and I did not have a big enough scholarship to cover the costs. If I would have went to the college I wanted to go to I would have had to shell out about eight thousand dollars.
So I came here instead, for a while at least, so I could save up enough money to go to the college I want to go to for my chosen degree.
