The first novel ever written is believed to be The Tale of Genji, written in the first decade of the 11th century by Murasaki Shibuku, a Japanese noblewoman. It contains 54 chapters

Strangely enough, I was surprised that the first novel was that historical. Don't know why...Japan has a much longer and richer history than just about any other country in the world. What was the novel about?
